The Shodo-jutsu is a dojo : social training place based on Node.js featuring Shodo, literally the art of writing in Japanese. In the dojo you collaborate with other people in real time to improvise a unique and cool calligraphy on a given theme. For instance one calligraphy for Node.js, socket.io, etc.
You and your collaborators on the team draw by turns one stroke after the other by handling a virtual ink-dipped brush. The more people love your work, the higher your skill level of shodo-jutsu is. One day you will get a kuro-obi (black belt) and become a Master Sensei of Shodo-jutsu!

drawing with fude-pen is fun! it’s amazing that you guys got this much details of it.
Thanks!
therazorbladeThe drawing board is beautiful but the rest is either not working right or completely confusing. Wasn’t sure how to do thing and how to progress in the game.
I found the concept to be great, the idea of having speed sensitive strokes was a great idea. And having collaborative users to practice your brush strokes with/against is great. I made a team and then could no longer figure out how to draw. I’m not sure what broke there. I also wasn’t sure what the voting was all about. I know that it was mentioned, but didn’t know how to accomplish it. The design really has me confused, so I presume that this was a matter of focusing more on the mechanics of drawing than on the mechanics of having a working page. To be honest, I rather expected more from a team of four.
You touch me on the raw :) We should have designed the work more simple and focused on the drawing itself. We are all greatly encouraged by your sincere feedback! Thanks a lot!
The drawing interface with the ink splats was incredibly well done and fun to use. 5 stars on fun for that. I could however, not figure out very well what to do on the interface, or what was going on, without reading the instructions. The two (pink/blue) buttons are also hard to figure out if you don’t know japanese. The teams, time limit and chat features didn’t seem to work when I tried it, so I’m giving 3 stars for completeness. EDIT: Got it working, so 5 stars now.
Thanks so much for your feedback! What we would have wanted to implement and feature the most is to make you feel as if you are drawing with a real ink-dipped brush. To turn chat on please join a team you like.
Oh, cool. Works now :–)
the velocity detection in the strokes is pretty sweet.
We’ve had a really hard time implementing the timing and velocity detection. Thanks a lot!
nddrylliogVery original! I love the idea, and the design is minimal but effective. Being able to see md5-like team IDs is a bit messy, hence not 5/5 on completeness, plus there were lots of empty ‘room/teams’ on the right? Hmm. And lots of ‘loves’ that I couldn’t quite figure out what they were linked with. The text field that had a submit button seemed to be redirected to /dev/null, which can’t be good :( And one of the two buttons did nothing that I could see. Otherwise, it seems like an interesting start, ping me when you have more!
Thanks so much for your sincere feedback! As you pointed out exactly, we’ve many things to improve about the UI design. The UI will be our theme to tackle.
*Please join a team it will enable you to turn chat on.
voodootikigodFun idea! Could be useful for virtual team collaboration.
Since i was the only one on the page it didn’t really make sense. You might get better scores with the judges if you hang out in the game as much as possible.
christkvFun concept, it would be interesting if it could be used to learn how to actually write kanji.

It seems to be very cool … But I can’t draw anything or start anything (I’m on google chrome)
The team system is maybe a good idea but confusing here …
I’m sure there’s a lot of hard work behind it but I can’t see it in this state.
So I degraded your completeness note until I manage to make it working … And then, after, I’ll see !
(nice use of bootstrap btw, I should have used it on my app)
