Invite your friends and race across the office to win and become the BOSSMAN!
Join a random race: http://playbossman.com
Start your own: http://playbossman.com/play/ROOM_NAME
Rooms list: http://playbossman.com/rooms
This game is best played with other people. Copy the Room URL and send it to a friend. Wait for them to join the room and start running once the race begins.
JUDGES AND CONTESTANTS: Please scroll down to the NOTES FOR JUDGES AND CONTESTANTS section to get some extra info.
Each game room expects a minimum of two players to start racing. Invite more friends for more fun.
Use the arrow keys to move your player. Press the space-bar to make your little pixel man jump. Move your player across the office space, avoiding obstacles to be the first player to reach the BOSSMAN’s office to win the race.
Acceleration Bonus: Keep running without hitting any obstacles and your acceleration will increase, speeding you past your competitors!
Refresh the page to rejoin the room. New rooms can be added at will: simply change the URL to whatever you like after “/play/”.
For example if you want the room name to be “knockout” simply enter this url in your browser: http://playbossman.com/play/knockout
Rooms are listed at http://playbossman.com/rooms and are spawned automatically to adapt to incoming traffic. This is an HTML5 game, best played with Chrome, Firefox, Opera and IE9.
Enjoy!
Here are some considerations we would love you to have when placing your vote on each category.
Utility/Fun: You should have tons of fun. The more people in the same room running, the more fun you have! It’s important to see how responsive the game stays even with lots of people, and how well synchronized the other players show up in your race.
Design: 100% Original game art and music by super talented team member Jeremy Forson ( http://jeremyforson.com ). All the graphics in the site, graphics in the game (business men, obstacles of all kinds, background, level map), animations (did you notice that when your player jumps even his tie flies around?), and even the music were made by Jeremy during the knockout. This is something we are very proud of and shows our commitment to creating a great game.
Innovation: We did not invent running, the game concept is original and artistic with a fun social commentary. Why do we run so much in the “Rat Race” of life?
Later on we will add: 1. Obstacles of all kinds 2. Donuts in the way that when you dont avoid them, they get you fatter and thus slower 3. Water coolers that when you pass through them, you have to stop for a bit to chit chat 4. Office objects you can throw at other players and slow them down. 5. Player interactions (players can push other players around, they can move boxes and other stuff to place them as obstacles for other players) 6. Multiple levels ( when you win, you get to a higher floor, and thus a different level ) 7. A terrible manager that when you pass by him, he holds you for a meeting and slows you down…
We thank you for the time. After the voting period, we will be implementing the improvements mentioned here :)
See you in the race!

felixgeFantastic works. Lots of fun to play the game, great graphics and sound, nice concept. As some others, I have noticed the a bug were the game displays “You won” to players who have lost.
maraksquiresProject description was TL;DR; Got a game going with about 10 people. Worked great. Awesome job. Only 4 stars in completeness, because I noticed a bug where it kept telling me I won, even though I didn’t.
We updated the description to be shorter and more to the point. Thank you for your vote Mark!
Well done for 48 hours guys! =) I even like the music. Officespace Canabalt? There actually is multiplayer Canabalt now on the Winnitron, but I have not played. Jumping was tough! Especially when there is a gap between the desk and the bookshelf. I wish there were more severe obstacles… if not pits of death, then I do like your donut idea for the future. I’d like to know the names of the players I am running against. How can I see what other rooms/races are open? My player was really smooth, but the remote player was not. There’s a bug where I can hear my jump noise even while in the air if I hit the jump key again. The mechanism that makes me run faster and faster is a bit buggy, too. Sometimes I’d run into an obstacle and stop completely but when I jump it seems like I still had my high speed powerup… which was confusing.
Thank you zachstronaut!
You can see other open races/rooms at: http://playbossman.com/rooms
hc5dukeGood mindless fun. I think there is a bug where the player’s x velocity increases too much when you hold down right and space, unless that was intentional. Also, when I played in two browser windows, they started at the same time, but they didn’t seem to sync with each other after that point. The list of future features look great. Also I think it’s spelled “C'est la vie”.
Description has been updated with “C'est la vie”. Thank you hc5duke! We look forward to providing more mindless fun!
“All I Do Is Win”. Fun game. Great graphics and use of sound. I hope you’ll continue fleshing out the game.
therazorbladeNot the most original but boy this is fun!
Hey, I won! A complete, well thought-out game.
Awesome 8bit design! And I won the race :)
ireneinkyuThe game is fun, complete, and looks good. It did slow down quite a bit with only two players, and gameplay was jerky and even appeared to freeze a few times, even though it eventually came back. Much smoother with just one player.
rjkentFun! Seems to be pretty jerky and a bit hard to play on FF (Linux). Chrome (Mac) works OK, though.
mattpodwysockiKind of a fun game. Has issues with loading though, and could use some sort of indicator.
it takes a while to load in latest Chrome beta, you should put up a spinner or somethig.
izsPretty fun game. | |||
chrissharkeyThought this was awesome, especially given the time frame! Looks like lots of fun and with more time you will be able to add other things to make it more entertaining. Well done.
Awesome, fun game, shows excellent node.js integration to game and other javascript middleware.
very nice one, even with tons of ideling runners ;–) i guess they like the music
pengwynnHaha! The premise of this game is really funny. That said, it didn’t seem like matchmaking was automatic since I was running by myself. I’m not huge on the obstacle-dodging games, though this is a pretty good one for the genre.
Had a good time running around an office! It auto paired with one person who didn’t move. I think it would be more exciting if it made sure there were more people in the room before starting.
Cute and simple. Kind of like a multiplayer Canabalt, although IMO the responsiveness could be a little better. Love the 8-bit aesthetic. It could use some more interesting gameplay elements like powerups or basic weapons, but maybe that can come later!
Fun jumping game! Great graphics/aesthetic as well. I think more interactivity with the other players would make it more interesting. Like if you could sabotage their path. Or even just see a zoomed out version to see where everybody is to make it more exciting. A few glitches with other players disappearing (?) And it says “you won” even if I didn’t win.

Design is cool but minus a point because 8-bit was a little overdone this year, and also it’s not immediately evident that you’re racing against everybody else. Minus a point on completeness because the game doesn’t degrade to single player mode very well. But generally, simple to play and wicked fun! I look forward to the enhancements you describe in your description.
