Moody Chef is a multi (or single) player puzzle game. Drop the monsters onto fruit of matching colors to remove it from the board, create combos for even higher scores. When playing against an opponent it is a contest to see who can last the longest.
From the home page, choose a game play mode of your choice. The game is controlled by using left, right, and down to move pairs of pieces and pressing up will rotate the pieces.
When playing multiplayer you will need a local friend (or enemy), boards are controlled with w, a, s, d for the left player and up, down, left, right for the right player.
Tested to work in Chrome (preferred browser), Firefox, and Safari. Not tested in Internet explorer, might not work.

samanthaquistCool little game, but doesn’t feel super-innovative to me – I’ve seen things like this before. Glad to see it created with Web technologies though.
Great fun guys – nice :) | |||
Glad you enjoyed it =)
Solid game, great design (I love how the chef gets all cranky when you complete blocks). I don’t see how Node.JS is really being used though, it seems like this could be an offline javascript/html app and work just fine. Also the blocks drop a bit too slow for my tastes. Just like others are saying, there’s a lot of room for “live” multiplayer action using socket.io!
Yeah, definitely. WebSocket integration was what we were aiming for. In the end, we ran out of time. That’s the chef gets cranky.
Nice work | |||
Thanks.
At first I thought Moody Chef was just a Tetris Attack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3HNEz9bxPs) clone. After playing for a bit, it’s easy to see that this game has it’s own flavor ;) I dig it!
Comes in four flavours: apple, orange, watermelon and strawberry.
I think the blue blocks are Apples…
elizabethchaYikes, I just wasted a ton of time on this — it was just too fun! Graphics are beautiful and cute and game worked perfectly. Lower score on innovation because it’s too similar to Tetris.
The graphics ARE beautiful aren’t they. Honestly, I think our panda looks better than Po.
Can you imagine: Tai Lung getting slapped around by spatchula wielding Po. Pew pew!!
ethan_andersonReally fantastic game! Very addicting, works smoothly and easy to pick up. Fun and engaging designs as well. Loses points on innovation because it’s kind of Tetris-like.
Tell me about it!
We spent a good chunk of time playing it (or testing it if you like). Hence the lack of multi-player mode!
therazorbladeNicely done! This is a pretty creative twist on Tetris. The game design doesn’t really match the background which is really nice. The gameplay itself should start easy and get harder as you move along.
Thank you.
We wanted to do that, but it was too hard for us. Maybe you guys are better @ puzzle games than we are!
ireneinkyuCute and well executed.
Thank you.
I personally think Dragon Warrior Po looks better wearing the chef hat.
well done implementation of super puzzle fighter or puzzle bobble etc (would have liked to see some kind of more original twist). but where is the online multiplayer!!!
We wanted it as much as you do!!!
willconantMoody Chef is a cute and passible web game, but doesn’t stand out in a Node.js contest.
It could well have stood in Node.js contest, if we had implemented multi-payer over WebSockets. And that definitely was our aim.
We are happy that we were able to get something across at the very least.
Design is great, and while it’s fun, it’s also… Tetris, food themed. Not too innovative (even the Node aspects of it have been done before).
More of a puzzle fighter than Tetris, but point taken. We had aimed higher than this; then four-ate out monstered us.
Awesome graphics!!! Did you guys did that in one weekend? Congrats to the designers!! It worked flawlessly! So, 5 stars to the completeness. As for the innovation, it’s just another tetris (or columns if you’re a Sega fan). This kind of app can be done in any plataform! Where is it taking advantage of node.js? As far as I can see, it can be even an offline app! Maybe I’m too dumb to notice where to turn on the remote playing. Nice app, great looking but could be pushed further.
The last step of this project was to have WebSocket based multi-player (you can see we got as far as constructing single-client multi-player mode); Then Agile happened.
b00giZmIt’s a well designed clone of Dr. Mario – nothing more and nothing less. It’s fun to play for a few minutes, but after endless hours of Dr. Mario in my childhood, there was nothing new to discover. But seriously – why is this an entry in a node.js contest? It’s got a multi-player mode, but players have to share one keyboard? That’s a real bummer! I assume the team wanted to make it possible to play over the internet in real-time, but didn’t get it done on time.
Yes, your assumption is correct.
cramforceVery well executed simple, tetris like game, Would have been awesome to get some sound but the graphics are really, really nicer and professional.
I love the colorful and cheerful graphics. Specially the fruit, they look delicious, haha. I like the gameplay style, where you have to use the special blocks to break the other blocks. Helps it not feel like a simple Puyo Puyo clone. Gameplay could be improved in my opinion with more animations, to make the game feel more “organic”. (Specially with the rotations) The animations on the characters are great, so perhaps the same style could be used on the fruit and faces, too. It took me some time to figure out multiplayer was not online, since this is a Node.js competition. The lack of online multiplayer is why I’m giving out 3 stars in the completeness criteria.
Seems like a client-side game that happens to be hosted on node. Wish more time was spent on the backend to for online multiplayer instead of just having nice graphics.
Nice looking little chefs. With a bit more nodejsessness it could be a lot more.
great game, but i’d like to see more focus on multi-player mode. it’s too much like tetris right now.
Great puzzle game with fantastic polish!
Nice javascript game but I wish there was some node.js power going on. I assume you guys have played the similar game Puyo Puyo? I like how that game adds competitiveness to the solitary Tetris genre. Could have lots of potential if you did that here!
Seemed a lot like Dr. Mario. Which I loved. That being said, this game is nothing new. I didn’t really understand what to do or how to win. I went to “Multiplayer” and used my arrow keys, but the other player just let everything drop—and they won. I guess I needed someone else at my keyboard?
Really complete. Design is awesome. But I cant’s see much innovation here ‘cause there’s nothing multiplayer os using socket’s power.
iapainFun, works great and does what it claims. You guys could go more into the wild and add some killer idea’s in multiplayer mode.
ddollarNeat idea, and it looks great. Had a little problem with the rotation either skipping positions or not working. Other than that, lots of fun. Great job :)

This is awesome and lots of fun to play. The design is fantastic, the fruit is cute and fun to watch, and the functionality seems to work great. The game is just a slight spin on Tetris, but Tetris enjoyed great success for a reason and you’ve nailed what’s fun about it here, with a bit of a twist of your own. Nicely done!
