Costa Sample App

By printercu

Screencast
Quick Intro

This is simple application built with costa tools.

Description

It's just simple blog implementation build with costa. I've added some posts with more description.

I wanted to write such example app some time before. NKO gave a point to write it fast.

I had had no idea for some serious project, so I've made simple blog app.

https://github.com/printercu/costa-example is repo with same application without deploy credentials.

Judging Instructions

Just take a look. I haven't implemented any auth, so i disabled creation of new posts.

Looks useful if you're a Ruby on Rails programmer moving to node.js.

Looks like you developed an application example based on previous work you had done on your costa framework. You didn't develop costa during NKO, right?

  • contestant

Looks like a generic setup. Was this just a good learning experience?

Good effort. Difficult for me to judge its utility as I've never used Ruby or Rails, sorry. And it doesn't seem complete so I gave it one star there

I'm confused as to what was actually built here. Is this presenting Costa in a new way? The Costa project is ~3 months old on github, so it wasn't created during the knockout. Happy to review again if I missed something.

I don't understand the purpose of the application or how to use it.

The concept sounds interesting, but the demo is lacking in details. I am not a big fan of CoffeeScript and Rails, so I may be a little biased here.

Being in coffeescript, I'm instantly turned off from using this just because it means I'd have to learn another language to work on my node.js blog. Might want to think about keeping the production in JS and giving instructions for those who like CS on how to use it.

clean looking output, although not not the most original project I've seen

It doesn't seem like any new ground was broken with this project, the team just built a sample application for a pre-existing framework.

This app has nothing special. As he said in his pitch video it's just a blog written using costa.

I like the idea of using the familiarity of Rails' style code to easily write these CRUD apps. Would be interesting to make it automatically tie in with something like Backbone for ease of development in the browser too.

Your repo is private so we can't see full source code

I believe there is a need for a CRUD based scaffold Rails framework, so you're on the right track. However, I doubt a bit how complete the framework or this project is if you didn't have time to finish authentication for a simple CRUD application. I encourage you to continue the development of this, though! :)

Your pitch video is set to private on YouTube, can you fix that? My votes are FPO since I'd like to come back and see the video so I can better understand what I am looking at (I see we can change are votes later).

This is nice, but I can't get much of a feel for how much you built this weekend. It seems like a simple bootstrap over the top your frameworks? Hope you had fun!
