Turf is a geo-social warfare app, where you stake a claim to your territory, and fend off those that try claim it for themselves.
Must be using a geolocation compatible device, and browser. Only tested on Firefox and Chrome, should be fine on all webkit browsers. Must have a twitter account.
Log in. tag your location. defend your turf.
or see what turf others own near you and actively take control of theirs. (warning, may mean lots of walking – but thats a good thing right!?)
express, everyauth, twitter, google maps v3, mongodb, mongoose, jquery, geo.js, tweasy, modernizr, oauth, and BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS

lsrblsNice concept, liked the design on the landing page and was intrigued to play the game but was not on a geolocation compatible device… :(
nonkenApp looks nice but where I was at the point of judging (Munich) I couldn’t really find enough people around to start a warfare – tried to play it with people in the office but thats obviously not the purpose of the game. I have seen similar games around where people can claim areas or play games in certain spots and gain badges or coupons. Might be interesting to sort of auto claim your area.
chinacceleratorI like the idea of having to move your butt in order to keep or conquer a territory, I guess this would require some auto checkin or mentioning that you enter a certain radius at some point. Unfortunately my test from Chrome has not been successful (“Geolocation failed, please check settings and retry.”) and I tried different angles but it didn’t pan out for me. I can only suppose if does what it says it does :–)
therazorbladeThe idea is really cool, especially the features described that you didn’t get to. What is missing for this to be usable is real-time updates of stakes in your area and notifications when you lose territory to someone else.
hey thanks for the vote, yeah the real-time updates twitter bot died with an hour to go to deadline http://twitter.com/turfappbot . I’m definitely going to finish it as soon as NodeKnockout is over.
cramforcereally? I voted honestly on your app and you just downvoted everything on mine. tsk tsk
to be fair :) i gave you 5 stars for fun/utility and 5 for completeness…
design – is subjective innovation – well …
I came to your idea because I really liked it and thought it was an awesome idea. I was disappointed when it wasn’t complete. Given the limited time and that you were working alone I can’t complain.
If you felt my scores were too low, let me know and I will reconsider.
hahaha no not at all :) your votes where fair :) even generous, was just comementing on the “tsk tsk”
thanks tho
__mario__Would like to see this finished and more playable.
I was really excited to see someone else do a geo-based game (since we built kill.node last year around a similar concept). Unfortunately it wouldn’t let me claim my location nor did it show anyone, anywhere, regardless of zoom level or panning :( Cool idea, just rather incomplete.
waxpancakeLove the clean design and concept, but definitely needs some work on gameplay before it could be fun or useful. Maybe pull in Foursquare checkins? Would love to see where this goes. Congrats on your first Node project!
This would be an excellent meta-game on top of something like foursquare. (Which is kind of a meta-game for life in and of itself.)
Fortunately or unfortunately, I pretty much own all things Charlotte, NC, USA because I’m the only person here. :)
