therazorbladejudgeThe idea of creating chats based on location is more original than many of the other chat entries, but the execution is lacking. The tour shows a map but I could not find such a feature. The chat itself is very limited. The mobile version is pretty broken.

Hi Eran, thank you for your compliments. We didn’t get as far along as we had hoped in the 48 hours (as I’m sure the story goes for a lot of people). We plan on extending this product beyond NodeKnockout, however. What mobile browser were you using?

My Cambridge zipcode is kind of lonely… a bit of “doorbell effect” where I write “hello” to see if anyone is out there, but don’t have any way of knowing who else might respond. I’m guessing the room is empty. Wrote a few things, but each time I write a new line, the text background is a new color. I feel like people should have a unique color that is consistent while they’re in the chat bubble.
Chatting with anyone about any topic is not all that compelling. I’d prefer meaningful conversation about something that has value to me. Even if it were something I was unfamiliar with, I’d appreciate razor specificity. I’d be much more interested in a room talking about something like “Keeping Exotic Pets and Your Favorite Pizza Bagels” rather than “Talk about anything."

Hi David, thank you for your input. That is the goal of NyanChat, unfortunately we don’t get to wrap up some of our more important features in the time allotted. We plan on continuing Nyan chat outside of NodeKnockout.
ethan_andersonjudgeI don’t think that people want to chat with random people around them. They didn’t even want to share photos on Color.
But I’m impressed with the location detection, intelligent routing to nearby bubbles and nice design elements.

contestantA common sample Node first project is a chat room. I’m glad you took it a step further with location. I wish the Nyan cat theme was taken further.
ekryskijudgeOverall the design and css are very colourful and friendly however there are a few of the bubbles that the text over flows. Some of the chat rooms seem to work and some don’t. One of the chat rooms has not very aesthetic JSON data on it. Overall the idea is cool but it looks like there were a few things that were left unfinished.

The design is very dull, seems to be done by developers.
However, the concept seems new to me. It’s something I wouldn’t do regularly but maybe it’s interesting to talk about issues related to the place I’m in ou going to.
Didn’t get the point of having the nyan cat in the app.
