hc5dukeNot sure if I get it… Some explanation of when/how the prices change would have helped. Also, search was a bit cumbersome.

SuttoA open source exchange? Cool idea. I quite enjoy the idea of having a fake stock market that traffics in open source project popularity, especially if you could find some way to tie it to promoting a project – e.g. rewarding people for promoting other open source projects is potentially a very unique take on promoting less commonly seen but still fun projects. From an application perspective, a few things did stand out as needing work – Namely, I saw a link to sell shares on someone elses page (although it didn’t actually let me sell them) and project search was seriously unuseful – tieing into GitHub’s search to let us fine projects / providing suggestions for up and coming projects might be a useful way to improve upon the results. I did like the touch of telling me how many shares i could buy with my current cash – it made the process super simple.
SteveStrezaThe more popular projects are way too expensive for entry level players, and discovery isn’t terribly easy. One thing I’d recommend is showing the list of projects that my GitHub account is watching, so I can invest in projects that I already like. Another would be to show people I’m following so I could see how my friends were trading. I wasn’t able to run this long enough to get the prices to change, so I’m assuming that all works. Could be a fun social game with some tuning.
janlThis is cool :) | |||

jsjohnstNot sure what use this app has, but it’s a definitely fun idea! If there was some end goal to owning a project I bet it would be even better. Good work!
therazorbladeNice! This is something I actually want to come back to. The only issue I have is that there is no spread. Your bid/ask are the same so there is no cost to buy and sell one after the other. What would be cool to add are some charts! Oh, and I did some “insider trading” buying a bunch of my project right before announcing it… made a bundle :–).
Unique for sure! | |||
I think this is such an awesome idea, didn’t find anything to buy though wich is kind of a bummer, or hmm. All prices are set to zero and I can’t afford to buy them with my 1k gc? Would be a nice thing to start using bitcoins so the projects actually would get a real life value.
slightlylateThe economy only grows by adding new folks to it…I smell multi-level marketing ;–) Hilarious. Would give it more props for Innovation except that ponzi schemes are, well, not new.
hunedInteresting concept but needs more transparency and inflation is already a problem. A real-time dashboard of prices would help showcase node’s strengths, and would be awesome for gitcoin speculators! Anyway… what do I buy with gitcoin?
this is hilarious. | |||
Great idea! | |||
andrewpbrettI came a little late to the party, so most of the projects that I recognized were already too expensive to buy with the amount I was given to start. Nice interaction design, everything was clear and simple, easy to find. I guess if lots of people were using this it would be important to have node handle all the transactions, but even for a fairly large scale it would have probably been able to be written in something else… though that’s definitely not a reason not to do something in node :–)
In the future some people will speculate with projects. IMHO that isn’t cool. But anyways it’s a disruptive concept and that’s good!
This might be a big thing some day :–)
unique idea, pretty cool.
Awesome idea – if you could monetize and offer rewards this could be a full-featured service.
“muahaha, your repository is mine!”
Very very nice idea! | |||
Would be even more fun if it was an actual market with a bid/sell side.
