MMO Hacking Game. Like real-time Risk, but with servers instead of territories and “cycles” instead of armies.
Works best in WebKit browsers. Have not tested in IE.

okaysamuraiVery cool idea. Definitely has a hacker vibe to it, and I liked the mechanisms of attacking, cycling, etc. – you’ve got the beginnings of a very cool game dynamic here. Wasn’t able to figure out if I could scroll in the text input area, so sometimes I was typing off screen. More help or a tutorial for newbies would be nice with more time. Nice work!
P0wning a new server is fun. Loved the history completion. In pure terms of gameplay, I didn’t get a sense that there was a win state. While this might actually fit the hacking metaphor better, I personally began to lose interest after having p0wned 4 or 5 servers.
ericfloThis was actually really fun! I don’t really have any complaints other than the console was too vertically tall for my screen so commands went off the bottom of the screen.
purincessFeels like a very niche app for programmers who are also into gaming.

ireneinkyuThis was fun! In Chrome, the bottom of the console gets cut off so I kept having to clear the screen. I didn’t come across any obvious bugs otherwise. It would be nice to add a feature that indicates how you are doing and maybe increase the difficulty as you do well.
nonkenAwesome work, worked well for me, like the ui
Nice console design, and I like this game idea. Tab completion for this would be really cool.
Gorgeous design though the console seemed to fall off the bottom of the page. Also, it felt like some sort of cumulative score or some indication of progress was missing.
cramforceA little hard to get into, but very cool idea. Had trouble seeing the last input line.
Got in a fight with ‘zeus’. Good fun.
Glad you enjoyed it :) Thanks for the review!
The prompt was a bit obscured in Chrome for me so I could only play for a bit before I was typing blind. Otherwise an awesome idea – reminds me of an old game called Uplink.
Thanks for the review! I’ll have to check out that uplink game. We do plan on enhancing/completing hackerwars as soon as the contest is over.
therazorbladeThis REALLY needs a help command! If the window isn’t big enough, stuff overlaps on FF.
Thanks for the review! We found the overlap bug shortly after the time ran out :/ There is a “clear” command you can use to clear the terminal to avoid the overlap though.
kiranryaliWasn’t really clear how this game should work, really needs a “help” command
I’ve emailed you this already but I’m not sure you got it.
Thanks for taking time to judge our entry! You’re right. We definitely needed that help command. That was on our list, but we ran out of time :/ Interestingly, quite a few users that tried the app figured it out just fine since the game will give you instructions if you try a wrong command.
That said, we do feel like you’re rating us 1 start in “innovation” and in “utility/fun” is harsh and unfair. We believe our idea is definitely innovative (do you know of any other game like it?) and many of the users who’ve been playing the game (198 users so far) seem to be having fun (almost 1500 servers hacked!).
We’d humbly ask you to reconsider your rating of our app. Please let me know if we can clarify any of the above.
Thank you for your time!

Nice! It’s a little annoying that I can’t see my current input on my screen, but other than that, pretty awesome. You should work in some actual hacking-type things like Uplink uses, but other than that, the UI is great and quite immersive.
Pretty neat idea. Kind of confusing because there’s no “help” command so I guess you have to figure out everything on your own (not a huge problem though). I keep hacking a server with name-number and that number is different than what I’m specifying. Maybe I just don’t get the gameplay. I do like the console (esp because I can hit the up arrow key, nice touch).
Interesting idea, but I don’t really get the gameplay, seem incomplete. Overall I liked your idea and felt it was pretty original.
waxpancakeI like the idea. I think it could be really cool if fleshed out. The commands prompt is nice and so are the arrow keys. I’m not really sure how to play, but that’s probably a limitation of my hacking skills. You might consider having different levels for different skill sets, so people with lesser skills get more prompts. Over all ver nice though.
Looked great, but I couldn’t scroll on my screen, so I had to keep clearing the display. Was quite difficult to figure out, so it wasn’t that fun. Can’t wait to play it more when there are some better instructions.
