therazorbladeCould not get the video to display across multiple browsers/windows. Since user works just fine but the second user didn’t show any video.
Thanks for checking it out.
There is an issue whereby videos only appear for the second viewer if they are added by the first user after the second user has joined the room.
There are lots more bugs to fix and features to implement but that one should work :–)
nelsonkchengUnfortunately I couldn’t get this to work. (using Chrome) Got to the main page (super fun design) and put down a username and joined one of the rooms. I pasted a Vimeo URL and clicked the add button. Nothing. Refreshed. Same process except this time, all the room names on the right hand side disappeared. Created a new room but still couldn’t add a video. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Ooh, sorry it didn’t work for you!
There are definitely a few bugs but it should at least play the video you pasted in. The sessions are not persistant at the moment so you need to log in every time you refresh the page. That may have explained why things stopped working.
Thanks for checking it out anyway!
Nice. And I love vimeo, so … Good job !
Cheers!
The videos worked and the animals around the TV was cute. Not sure what size videos I need to get it to fit in the TV though. Only HD seemed to fit, the rest were too tall. I went into all the rooms and didn’t see any videos so I’m not sure if it is me or if somehow all 60 people weren’t playing anything at all. I created my own room and watched my own videos though. My only issues is I can’t really tell if other users are really there and that I didn’t see a video queue. Other than that cute design! This app seems like it would be good for lectures for online courses since people are gathered but not necessarily interacting.
Thanks for checking it out!
Yeah, we ran out of time to implement a few key features like chat and better handling of the queue.
Looking forward to continuing to hack on it.
pcaprNice use of socket.io! Would be nice to have a history of the last 10 video’s posted along with the last one playing when you entered the room. The TV background with the animal lounge is pretty nicely done too.
Thanks!
Yeah that’s a good idea. We’re also thinking of showing the upcoming queue.
joehitchensInteresting. Not sure what was particularly compelling though. I didn’t seem to be able to interact with other viewers. or otherwise be aware of their presence in any special way. So it didn’t seem to matter if they were there or not.
Cheers. The main thing that we didn’t have time to finish implementing is real time chat. I think the project would be much more compelling with the ability to chat about the video as it’s playing and what to play next.
jedschmidt+1: cool idea, fun theme. -1: i sense the team ran out of time, as i was unable to add a video, and every page reload starts from scratch.
Thanks for checking it out.
Yeah, it’s definitely an early proof of concept. Lots more to do with a little more time :–)
ekryskiI really like this app! I’m not sure if I personally would really use it but the concept is cool. The CSS is rocking!! I love the design. It almost does what it is supposed to so that is great. There are 3 improvements that I could suggest: 1) The video keeps playing even if the uploader leaves the room 2) The video is collaborative. When I log in on different browsers with two different people I can’t see the video. ie. I can’t really share my videos with others I can only view them myself 3) Make grabbing videos from vimeo easier. I found it cumbersome to have to enter a url and some formats of the url don’t work. (ie. www.vimeo.com/video/28024116)
Thanks!
There are definitely a few issues to fix such as the empty room problem (ran out of time!).
I’d definitely like to add a bookmarklet to make adding videos easier. I’d also like to do some further integration with the Vimeo API to do search and and to access users' subscriptions and ‘like’ feeds.
A great assembled product very similar to my project except it’s for vimeo’s base. Couldn’t see the video playing. :(
In overall: seems great work, fellas! :)
