Real-time, collaborative greetings for humanoids and their friends.
Instructions: Go to the site and create a card. That card will be emailed and you’ll get a “Sign the Card” link that you can go to as well as share. After signing you will be able to view the card and see new updates coming in.
A note about creation- you should use real email addresses. We were going for “security through obscurity”. You will see a signing link to share with others in your email after you create the card.
There are 3 ways in which you can sign the card. You can just type a message, “pen” a message or record a message with your phone (and the provided PIN).
Support: This has been tried in Chrome and FF. IE…may or may not have issues…who knows right?

emckeanLooks quite amusing. I like the ability to draw a bit into the card.
Cute app! But I don’t see the point of using Node.js to it. It could be done in any other plataform. The result card is fun! It can be improved!
That’s true, however the same could be said of most of 90-95% of the projects.
AFAIK the point of the competition is to pick some idea and build it in node. Ultimately we were going to use Hook.IO to make it really easy to scale the backend but with time constraints we had to cut that piece. Additionally, we used nowjs for realtime updating which is node specific, yet websockets are not (which is what now is based on).
Most frameworks copy the functionality of other frameworks (core or modular), thus you’ll find that almost any project could be implemented in another framework. The point is to use what you prefer. I prefer JS over Ruby and Python which are the more common choices for alternatives.
Outside of that, in what ways do you think it could be improved. We’re building a list of features and issues to tackle. The UI has some less-than-intuitive parts and we’re going to work on those. Did you see anything else being an issue?
Thanks for the vote!
Smart targeting of the greeting card category with an original social card concept. You can even upload your own sprite background files to co-create on; leaderboard may encourage submission and ranking of new designs. Solid execution.
urbanpugThis is a great idea with lots of potential. It needs some tweaking and filling out the idea with all the little details, but I can see this becoming very popular. You need to do some usability testing and add in a lot of the little details to help novice users understand how to use the system.
steadicatPretty ugly cards that I can’t even preview. I was confused about what I was doing until the card was sent – only then I finally got to see it. Besides the manual signing (which is awkward with a mouse), I don’t see the value over similar services.
Very cool idea, I just can’t see myself using it in the near future :D But I liked the implementation
therazorbladeThere seems to be more focus on the signing than on the card creation. I had to experiment to figure out I could draw on the card. A theme preview is a must have.
We agree. We didn’t have time to get to the preview. But, that is coming. :)
mstinaleeFun idea. Easy to use. Would love to see an editing tool when creating the card, maybe even with ready-made images.
mendelcInstructions could be improved, but overall it works great and even actually sends an email. Good job!
Hey,
What about the design do you think could be improved?
Thanks!
It was odd using the interface, without the instructions on here I really didn’t get what was going on.
Thanks for the feedback! We’re planning to take some steps to correct issues with the app and dev new features. I appreciate it.
ireneinkyuWorks well, but the site and instructions could be more intuitive to show the various features off some more. The emailed card link got caught in gmail’s spam filter. I like the ability to add your own graphics. The final product with the card up top and signature at the bottom of the page was oddly laid out to me. But I think there is a lot of potential here, with a few tweaks and refinements.
rjkentNice enhancement of e-cards with some new social functionality. And I like the angry moon!
ekryskiI think this app is quite well put together. It delivers everything it promises to. The UI is simple and easy to follow. I like that you can customize cards and I could see it being an attractive app because it only takes a few clicks to send a card. The card however did not show up in the mail so maybe that functionality is still missing.
zapnapThis is an interesting use of node, and the tropo / voice integration makes it more intriguing. The signing link is a good idea too. Feels rough around the edges overall (in terms of user experience, etc) but the core idea here is good and with a little more work it could be something a lot of people would use for office birthday or thank-you cards. Maybe consider facebook or other social network integration / sharing for easy access…
Hey,
What, in your opinion, would have pushed your completeness score higher? More polish in the design? Slightly more focus on specific UX pieces (and if so, what)? Did a specific feature not function the way you’d intended/expected it to?
Thanks!
zapnapYeah sorry, I should have been more clear about that. To me that category represents the “finished product” aspect, ie how well packaged and finished everything appears to be from an outward point of view. I gave only 2 stars because there are still a lot of rough edges and user experience details that felt like they needed attention.
For example, when choosing a theme I had nothing to go on other than the name of it. And then the ‘draw or write’ page felt strange because there weren’t really any instructions and just a blank area. After writing, it renders the drawing on top of a background image, which I hadn’t expected (I did this a second time and the image appeared while I was drawing). The final result looked a bit like a work in progress too.
I don’t mean any of this negatively, I think what you guys are working on is a very cool idea with a lot of potential, and you get big points for the unique way you’ve integrated audio. Just trying to give some constructive feedback. Hope it helps!
Negative or positive, it’s all good. It’s hard with judging projects to rate and give constructive feedback, especially with the number of projects there are.
Thus, I figured I’d ask directly for more detail about the pieces I was interested in figuring out more on. :)
I appreciate it!
Hey, I’m curious, what about the design did you think was awful?
Thanks!
The “logo” is not fine. Colors are preety weird, buttons have no hover/active, type is weird with no smooth edges, forms are just “throwed” at the screen with tons of “helpful” information. Lists of themes r completely without stile. And the themes are preety ugly.. I would not send ‘em to my friends.
Gotcha. There is definitely more work to do. :) Thanks for the feedback!
jamesaduncanWorks well and just in time for holiday season :)
very cute — neat idea, too!
